About the Wey-South Path

The Wey-South Path is a 34-mile (55km) long route along the Wey and Arun Canal, starting in Guildford in the North and finishing in Amberley in the South. The Wey-South Path was created in the 1970’s and mostly runs along the towpaths of the Wey and Arun Canal, connecting the North Downs Way to the South Downs Way.

What is the trail route?

The path commences just north of Millmead Lock in Guildford before passing through Bramley, Elmbridge, Loxwood, Stopham and Greatham before finishing in Amberley. The route is way marked in both directions with Wey-South Path circular discs. The route not only has fantastic views of the canal but also passes through Sidney Wood and Amberley Brooks which also offer some great scenery.

How long will the trail take to walk?

The trail usually takes between 1-3 days to walk.

Maps & Guides

There are three maps that you will need in order to cover the Wey-South path in its entirety – the OS Explore 145 Guildford & Farnham map, the OS Explorer OL34 Crawley & Horsham map, and the OS Explorer OL10 Arundel & Pulborough map. These are readily available to purchase online or in local bookshops, or alternatively you can usually pick these up libraries.

There is also a ‘The Wey-South Path’ book costing £4 which can be purchased from the Wey & Arun Canal Trust website.

Cafes and pubs on the Wey-South Path

The Three Compasses (Alfold) – A traditional country pub with a large open fireplace and a large beer garden. Open everyday 12pm – 10pm.

The Onslow Arms (Loxwood) – Located in the heart of Loxwood, The Onslow Arms is a grade II listed pub with many of its original features still on display. They have quite a broad menu so there should be something to suit all. Open Monday – Saturday 12pm – 10pm and Sunday 12pm – 6pm.

The White Hart (Stopham)  Located next to Stopham Bridge, The White Hart is a lovely gastro pub that serves locally sourced seasonal food. Open Monday – Saturday 11am – 11pm and Sunday 11am – 6pm.

The Black Horse (Amberley) – Located at the end of the Wey-South Path, the Black Horse is the perfect spot for a celebratory pint or glass of wine. Open Monday – Wednesday 12pm – 2pm and 6pm – 8.30pm, Thursday – Saturday 12pm – 2pm and 6pm – 9pm and Sunday 12pm – 6pm.
