When the sun is shining and you are looking for things to do on sunny days in Sussex, we have listed some of our favourites – ranging from walks, cycle rides and cities to explore.

Go on a Sussex walk

There’s no better way to enjoy the sunshine than heading out on a walk around the county. We have compiled a selection of our favourite countryside walks in Sussex including short walks, circular walks and long-distance trails – why not try one of these out?

Cycle in Sussex

There are many places to cycle in Sussex – some easy flat routes that we have cycled include the Downs Link and also the Salterns Way. If you are looking for more of a challenge why not cycle the South Downs Way? Or we have tried some cycle routes that you can discover on our cycles routes in Sussex page.

Enjoy a Day in Lewes and Visit Lewes Castle

Lewes is a great town to visit on a sunny day, as you can enjoy wandering around the streets, visit Southover Grange Gardens and climb to the top of Lewes Castle to appreciate the panoramic views of the county. You can also visit the Museum of Archaeology next to the Castle which contains artefacts from prehistoric to medieval Sussex. You can also enjoy a walk down the River Ouse, either by starting from Offham or by picking up the path from the Phoenix Causeway Car Park in the centre of Lewes and walking along the river. The Aldingbourne Country Centre

The Aldingbourne Trust invites you and your family to our Country Centre near Chichester to get back to the important things in life like laughing, eating, drinking, and playing together.

There is plenty to do at the centre including visiting the open farm and getting up close to their lovely animals, exploring the accessible countryside park, visiting the woodland walk, and there is also plenty to do for little ones including soft play.

Visit Brighton Beach

Where else would you go when the sun is out than the seaside city of Brighton. There are many things to do in Brighton, take a look at our suggested activities for inspiration. Parking can be quite pricy and also can get busy in Brighton so we tend to get the train in!

Wakehurst

Wakehurst is lovely to visit all year round and there are so many paths to explore – you could easily spend a day enjoying the trails, having lunch in the cafe and admiring the flowers. We particularly love the water gardens – such a relaxing area of the gardens and the flowers in the Walled Garden.

Visit West Dean Gardens

The West Dean Gardens make for a beautiful day out in the sunshine. They are located around 6 miles north of Chichester and include a beautiful walled garden, 300 ft high and 100-metre long pergola, sunken garden and a collection of Victorian Glasshouses.

Address: West Dean Gardens, West Dean, nr Chichester, West Sussex, PO18 0QZ

Visit Leonardslee Gardens

The gardens at Leonardslee are particularly stunning in the sunshine. There are many walks you can take through the 240 acres of gardens, woodland and forest areas, and lakes.
Keep your eyes peeled for the white wallabies which roam around the gardens!

Address: Leonardslee Gardens, Brighton Road, Lower Beeding, Horsham, RH13 6PP.

Enjoy seafood from The Lobster Pot

The Lobster Pot is a café located by the beach at Felpham, near Bognor Regis. It serves up breakfasts and lunches, and offers local seafood options. With a beautiful view of the beach, it’s the perfect place for a spot to eat in the sunshine.

Address: The Lobster Pot, Canning Road, Bognor Regis, PO22 7AF

Visit Ashdown Forest

Ashdown Forest, East Sussex is a wonderful large open area for walking and enjoying the scenery and also the home of Winnie the Pooh’s and Pooh’s bridge. There are many car parks you can park at in all areas of the forest so there are plenty of options!

Visit West Wittering Beach

Whilst we love the classic pebbled beaches of Sussex, it is nice to feel the sand between your toes on a sunny day.

The West Wittering beach is located South-West of Chichester and is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is a large and unspoilt sandy beach, which makes it the perfect spot for swimming and building sandcastles.

For refreshments, view our cafes in West Wittering.

Enjoy a Vineyard Tour

Sussex is home to a great many vineyards which offer wine tasting, tours and even the chance to stay overnight at a vineyard. Take a look at our recommended vineyards in Sussex for inspiration.
