There is a range of charities across Sussex that do some fantastic work. We have detailed some of these charities below, with links to find out more information.

Chestnut Tree House 

Chestnut Tree House is a registered charity in Sussex, that offers care to 300 children and young adults and their families. Their aim is to provide the best quality of life for the children they care for and support for their families.

This care is provided free of charge, and therefore they rely on donations to support the work they do. They have a number of shops located throughout Sussex, including in Arundel, Bognor Regis, Brighton, Chichester, Eastbourne and Seaford. They also offer fundraising packs for participants in walking, running or cycling challenges.

St Barnabas House

St Barnabas House is located in Worthing and operating throughout West Sussex, providing palliative, supportive care to adults with life-limiting illnesses. They offer care within their Day Hospice or at the patient’s home and offer services for symptom management and end of life care. They have a number of shops across West Sussex, including in Littlehampton, Shoreham, Storrington, Steyning and Worthing. They also offer fundraising packs for those participating in challenge events.

Safe in Sussex

Safe in Sussex is a registered charity based in Worthing that provides support for those affected by domestic abuse. They offer drop-in sessions, allowing people access to one-to-one advice. They also aim to prevent domestic abuse by increasing awareness, and by offering education programmes. They have a Safe in Sussex charity shop in Broadwater, recycling bins located around Worthing and regularly run fundraising events.

YMCA Downslink Group 

YMCA Downslink Group is a charity working across Sussex and Surrey, to help prevent youth homelessness and improve the lives of vulnerable young adults. Some of the work they do includes providing supported accommodation, housing advice, support and advice, counselling services and training and education.

Turning Tides

Turning Tides is a charity based in Worthing that aims to tackle homelessness across West Sussex. They offer drop-in community hubs, residential projects, ‘move on’ housing and they also have specialist staff who work with mental health issues, addiction and trauma. They run fundraiser events, and are always looking for volunteers and people wishing to fundraise.

Possability People

Possability People is a charity providing services across East and West Sussex to help support disabled people or those with long term health conditions, to live more independently.

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue & Ambulance Service provides a rescue service for wildlife casualties and treats them in their own hospital away from the stresses that veterinary centres can bring. East Sussex WRAS has a charity shop in Eastbourne or you can buy off their online eBay shop.
